Torontonians love brunch. We pride ourselves in perfecting the art of brunch and to prove it, we have an endless option of brunch places here in the city. We are not able to have brunch regularly due to some weekend early morning engagements, but once in a while, when we have a free weekend day, we celebrate the day starting off with a nice brunch! At the end of this past summer, we had a free weekend day and decided to finally visit School Restaurant. School is located in Liberty Village in downtown Toronto and it truly is one of the best brunch places in the city. The line up to get a table can be long so bring snacks as reinforcements, but the food is definitely worth the wait. We started our brunch date with a nice tall glass of School House Caesar. If you’re a fan of caesars then you’d definitely love the School’s. It’s spicy, strong and garnished with bacon (that’s right, bacon) and pickled veggies. Ever had pickled okra before? Well, it’s fantastic. If you’re not a fan of okra, a bite of their pickled okra will convert you! Arkadi had their scrambled egg with smoked salmon served on their house made chive and cheddar biscuit. The scrambled egg was creamy with a little hint of saltiness from the smoked salmon. The biscuit was puffy, flaky, cheesy goodness! I had their golden hashbrown poutine with pulled pork and let me tell you – it was the perfect comfort food! You have layers of goodness in this poutine – creamy potatoes, braised leeks, rich gravy, melted cheese and tender and flavourful pulled pork. And because it’s the weekend and I deserve even more comfort, my poutine was topped with a sunny side egg and a little dollop of their tomato jam. I actually wish you can buy their tomato jam to go because I’d like to slather it on everything- it was that good! If you want to venture out and try something new for brunch, try out School Restaurant and you’d agree that it’s worth braving downtown. Here’s some pics from our brunch date for you:
