There are two beverages Russians love – vodka and chai (a.k.a. tea). In fact, tea and tea drinking are a part of Russian culture. Part of showing Russian hospitality is to serve your guests vodka during their meal and tea for dessert. Combine these two beverages and you have a fantastic cocktail. Try it out at home and you’ll see why Russians love their teas and vodkas! Here’s the recipe for you:
Russian Iced Tea
Author: Food & Drink (LCBO)
Recipe type: Drinks
Serves: 5 -6
Ingredients
- lemonade
- 4 cups of strong black tea*
- 1.5 tablespoon of honey
- 6 ounces of vodka
- strips of lemon zest
Instructions
- Fill an ice tray with lemonade and freeze.
- The day before serving or at least a few hours before, brew 4 cups of strong black tea (*we used 3 bags earl grey tea).
- While the tea is still hot, add the honey and stir the honey until dissolved.
- Let the tea cool on the counter and then refrigerate.
- Into a pitcher, add the cold tea and vodka.
- To serve, put 3 or 4 lemonade ice cubes into a glass and garnish with lemon strips.
